Positive thinking is all about focusing on the good things in any situation. Studies have shown that it has benefits for both mental and physical health. To Think positively does not mean you should ignore all your problems. It means you should approach them with an optimistic mindset.

Our minds are remarkable as humans. It is better than the mind of any other animal. Many things in the world today began as a thought. From the device you are using to the article you are reading.

Have you ever been in a situation where all the things you imagined would go wrong went wrong? It is a common problem we have as humans. We imagine bad things about ourselves. We worry about situations, and we allow external events to shape the way we think.

“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.” ― Roy T. Bennett

We often forget that our thoughts create our reality. If you have a negative outlook on life, life will be negative. But if you have a positive outlook, everything will be beautiful.

How To Think More Positive Thoughts

It is normal to fall into that vicious cycle of negative thinking. All you need is the awareness that you can control and observe your thoughts. To become more positive in life, you need to take control of your thoughts.

Here are 4 practical ways to think and feel more powerful:

1. Practice Gratitude

Gratitude has been shown to improve mental and physical health. You can keep a gratitude journal where you set time during the day to write down the things you are grateful for. You can do this in the mornings when you wake up.

2. Feed Your Mind With Positive Content

You are what you consume. Take control of the type of content you take in. Read inspirational content, or listen to podcasts that inspire positive thinking. If you have a problem, search online for people who have gone through similar things for inspiration.

3. Replace Negative Thoughts With Positive Ones

Learn to recognize negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. When you catch yourself thinking negatively, reframe your thoughts.

For example, if you make a mistake and find yourself thinking things like “I always fuck up”, replace it with something like “mistakes happen, and I can learn from them”.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. Keep things realistic. You don’t want to be overly optimistic. You also shouldn’t be negative. Over time, you’ll get better at handling your emotions by reframing your thoughts.

4. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of being more aware of your actions in the present moment.

Most times, we operate on autopilot during the day. Taking control is significant to improve your state of mind.

Things like meditation and Yoga can help you achieve this state of mindfulness. By being more aware of your actions, you feel more in control. Set aside at least 10 minutes daily to meditate and observe your thoughts. It could be more.

Benefits of Positive Thinking

Everything becomes more pleasant the moment you think positively. You’ll feel more in control of your life and enjoy benefits like:

  • An increased lifespan
  • Lower rates of depression and distress
  • Better mental and physical health
  • Improved coping abilities in stressful situations
  • A more natural ability to build relationships and bonds

Final Thoughts

Treat your mind like a garden. Plant seeds of gratitude. Negative thoughts are like weeds that drain you of your energy.

Cultivate a positive mindset. It will fill your days with more joy. Stay positive even in situations that seem stressful. Remember that the inner world shapes the outer world.
